City to City, charging five wide through the stretch under Joel Rosario, scored a half-length victory in the $150,000 Providencia Stakes (gr. IIT) (VIDEO) on the Santa Anita Park turf April 3.

Defeating nine 3-year-old fillies in the 1 1/8-mile Providencia, City to City has put together back-to-back stakes wins on the lawn at Santa Anita and now has won three of four starts on grass this year.

City to City is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, who owns the daughter of City Zip   in partnership with William DeBurgh and Mark DeDominico. She won the China Doll Stakes over several of her Providencia rivals Feb. 20, yet went off as the fourth choice of the bettors at odds of 9-2.

“I think she’s a lot better horse than people think," said Dan Ward, Hollendorfer's Southern California assistant. "When she works, she really finishes strong every single time. I was surprised she was that far back, but she got in a little bit of trouble at the start and got pinched off. But once she started moving, she was fine.”

Irish-bred Andina finished second with Joe Talamo aboard, with the late-running 5-2 favorite In the Slipssettling for third, 1 1/2 lengths behind the winner.

City to City scored the fifth win of her career in 11 starts and increased her bankroll to $193,054. She rallied from sixth at the three-eighths marker, coming home under strong left-handed urging from Rosario.

"This filly will take on whatever, it doesn’t matter, from behind or close to the pace," Rosario said. She’s a nice filly.”

Camille C set the pace, leading by two lengths at the eighth pole before weakening to fourth. Fractions were :23.53, :47.69, and 1:11.64.

Warren's Skater, who finished fifth, broke down galloping out on the clubhouse turn and was euthanized after sustaining a displaced left front fetlock. Warren's Jitterbug, Cozi Rosie, Antares World, Pulpit Magic, and Hot Citizen completed the order.

Dr. D. Michael Cavey Jr. bred the winner in Kentucky, City to City, a $50,000 yearling buy in Washington in September 2008, is out of the Storm Cat mare Stormbow.

City to City carried 117 pounds and paid $11.60, $6, and $3.80. Andina, who ran third in the China Doll for Ben Cecil, returned $5.60 and $3.40 and capped a $52 exacta. In the Slips, winner of the Blue Norther Stakes  prior to a fourth-place effort in the China Doll, returned $2.60 to show.
