Homewrecker Racing’s and Avalon Farm’s Custom for Carlos reeled in pacesetter Chief of Affairs in the final sixteenth and dug in for a neck victory in the $150,000 Count Fleet Handicap (G3) on Friday at Oaklawn Park.

The four-year-old More Than Ready colt won for the second time from three starts this season, picking up his third career Grade 3 victory for trainer Eddie Kenneally.

Stakes winner Chief of Affairs hustled to the lead and took the field through a quarter-mile in :22.19 and a half-mile in :45.33 as 7-to-10 favorite Custom for Carlos and jockey Mike Smith settled in third on the inside.

Moving out in the stretch, Custom for Carlos began making up ground on the leader, pulling even with about a sixteenth to run and then surging ahead in the final strides for the narrow victory, covering six furlongs in 1:09.05 on a track rated fast.

Chief of Affairs finished a game second, 2½ lengths in front of multiple graded stakes-placed winner Riley Tucker.

Custom for Carlos opened the season with a 1¾-length victory in the Mr. Prospector Stakes on January 9 on a sloppy track at Gulfstream Park. He entered the Count Fleet off a runner-up finish, second by a neck to Wall Street Wonder, in the Toboggan Stakes (G3) on March 6 at Aqueduct.

Custom for Carlos has six wins from 13 starts and $460,630 in earnings in two racing seasons. Bred in Kentucky by David Hager II, he is out of the winning Meadowlake mare Meadow Oaks.
