Report:
Italy, Saturday
Capannelle, Rome: Premio Regina Elena (Group 3) 1m, 3yo fillies

EVADING TEMPETE (Francois Rohaut/Jean-Bernard Eyquem) gave the form of the 1,000 Guineas favourite Special Duty a timely boost with a smooth success in the Italian equivalent, the Group 3 Premio Regina Elena, at the Capannelle in Rome on Saturday.

The daughter of Dubai Destination finished half a length in front of Special Duty when runner-up to Joanna in the Prix Imprudence on her previous start.

Evading Tempete was always to the fore in Saturday's race.

Taking up the running three furlongs out, she justified 1.18-1 favouritism by a comfortable length and a quarter.

Rohaut, who is based just outside Pau in south western France, suggested afterwards that her next race could be the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The Clive Brittain-trained Jira was the only other foreign raider in a huge field of 19.

She raced in second but was headed virtually as soon as she took the lead early in the home straight.

Jira plugged on doughtily enough under Chris Catlin to finish fifth, five and a half lengths behind the winner.

In a contest where it paid to race prominently, runner-up Cronsa chased the winner throughout the final three furlongs.

The only filly to make any real impact from off the pace was Zobenigo, who came from last to grab third, three-quarters of a length behind Cronsa.
