After an intense battle on the front end, Haras Firmamento’s homebred Catch the Mad battled back from along the rail under Edwin Talaverano to score by a neck in the Gran Premio Eliseo Ramirez (Arg-G1), the first Group 1 turf race of the season for two-year-old fillies, on Saturday at Hipodromo San Isidro.

Trained by Juan Carlos Etchechoury Jr., the Catcher In The Rye filly completed 1,400 meters (6.96 furlongs) in 1:20.63 on firm turf.

Tampaintherye, another promising filly by Catcher In The Rye, was second best, crossing the finish line 1 1/2 lengths clear of Quick Val. Favorite Sembra Fe, winner of the Saturnino J. Unzué (Arg-G1) on March 6 at Palermo, finished fifth, beaten by 12 lengths, in the six-horse field.

Runner-up in the Saturnino J. Unzué, Catch the Mad won for the second time in three starts after a successful debut at Palermo on January 11. She is out of the winning Poliglote (GB) mare Crazy Wells.
