Outstanding three-year-old Better Than Ever leapt up the ratings following his seven length victory in the Group 2 $350,000 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic over 1400m on Sunday.
Mike Wanklin, Singapore Turf Club’s Vice President of Racing and Chief Handicapper, said the Laurie Laxon-trained gelding is now rated on 107 following the victory, his eighth on end.
Better Than Ever’s 107 rating now has him rated as Singapore’s leading three-year-old, taking over the top spot from stablemate Mexican Rose on 102.
Better Than Ever cruises to victory in the Group 2 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic on Sunday.
Wanklin said it was impossible to rate Sunday’s race mathematically after Better Than Ever disposed of the field in emphatic fashion.
“Better Than Ever is clearly world class,” said Wanklin. “On his win on Sunday I would say he is an international Group 1 horse.
“It is hard to say what his international rating would be following the win.
“Ideally I would like to see him against a horse with an international rating – like a Jolie’s Shinju, a Waikato or a Cheyenne Dancer – to get a fix on an international rating.
“But working on what we have seen of him, I’m sure he would have a figure of 115 plus after that win.”
Recording his eighth consecutive victory and remaining unbeaten, Better Than Ever still falls short of Rocket Man’s 115 rating after recording seven straight wins in his three-year-old season.
“Rocket Man went to 115 following his seventh win which was at Group 1 level,” said Wanklin.
“He had also won twice in open company before that victory.
“Better Than Ever hasn’t met the quality that Rocket Man had raced against at the same stage, but he is still one outstanding racehorse.”
