Race Comments: UPTOWNCHARLYBROWN stalked the pace early, bid three wide leaving the turn then shook off BLACK DIAMONG CAT leaving the furlong marker and pulled away late. BIG LOOIE led early, remained close up after being displaced on the lead then came again late for the place while no match for the winner. BLACK DIAMOND CAT chased inside early, gained a short lead in the turn but weakened in the final furlong. SILVER CRAFT passed tiring rivals. BENESTAR faded after a half. PLACE VALUE was through early. GESU showed little.

The connections of promising maiden winner Uptowncharlybrown ambitiously launched him toward the spring classics on Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs and he was visually impressive in a six-length romp in the $53,000 Pasco Stakes.

Sent off as the 7-to-10 favorite, Fantasy Lane Stable’s three-year-old Limehouse colt stalked the pace from fifth under Daniel Centano and bid three wide on the turn. He dispatched front-runner Black Diamond Cat inside the final furlong and drew off late for the clear win while covering seven furlongs in 1:24.28 on a track rated as fast. The Pasco is a local prep race for the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) on February 13.

Trained by New Jersey-based Alan Seewald, Uptowncharlybrown sparkled in a nine-length victory in his career debut on December 26 at the Oldsmar, Florida, track and drilled three furlongs in a bullet :36.20 on January 11.

Asked about the colt’s chances to continue on against the nation’s top three-year-olds, Seewald said: “We hope. We hope. You gotta dream.”
